One of the organizations that Emily’s Perfect Day supports is the CureSearch Ultimate Hike. The Ultimate Hike is the only hiking endurance program focused on childhood cancer. To date, Ultimate Hikers have raised over $9 million in support of CureSearch’ s mission to end childhood cancer. This year we hope to reach our $10 million milestone goal, and with six remaining hikes this year, we are well on our way.
I, along with my friend, Robin Waddell, have participated in 15+ hikes around the country, the latest one being the Foothills Spring Hike the weekend of April 28th. This hike is a 28.3 mile one-day hike along the Chattooga River in Oconee State Park and is a challenge! We refer to this as our “home” hike and it is by far our favorite.
The day started out at 2:15 am when our alarm clock buzzed alerting us it was time to rise and shine. We, along with about 30 other hikers, left the hotel to make the hour-long ride to the trailhead. When we arrived, we were met with wicked lightning, pouring rain and an impending hail storm. The EMT’s who offer aid and support for our hike decided it was too dangerous so we were relocated to a remote gas station where we took cover under the awning to wait out the storm. Two hours later, the weather finally broke and we were able to start the hike.
It was a beautiful day and is always a lovely hike through the woods and down by the water. The wildflowers were out and the trees a bloom and I was reminded of what beauty can be found in nature. This hike has raised $137K towards our $150K goal and no doubt, we will get there.
If you’re looking for an adventure of endurance, challenge, and fun all while giving back to a wonderful cause then take a moment to look up the CureSearch Ultimate Hike. There are several awesome locations to choose from and you will not meet a better bunch of like-minded people coming together to tell childhood cancer to Take-A-Hike!
