Emily’s Story.

Emily Lauren Rose, a vibrant, passionate young lady, lost her battle with cancer in December of 2008. Emily was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in the summer between her junior and senior years of high school. We could not have imagined the harrowing 5 months following her diagnosis. During this stressful time, Emily exhibited a phenomenal strength of spirit and faith to all those she encountered.

Remembering Emily.

Emily’s biggest fear during her journey was that she would be forgotten. She wanted to be remembered for who she was: a caring, giving, loving young lady. Emily was an old soul. She was deeply empathic. The experience of others weighed on her heavily. It’s become our mission to make sure that she is remembered. Our endeavor to honor her life and share her beautiful spirit is directly inspired by remembering how Emily lived each and every day of her short life, always putting everyone else ahead of herself. Over time we realized the best way to honor her was to help families and children who are in similar circumstances. And while Emily’s story is incredibly sad, if we can share what she loved and others can enjoy that same kind of perfect day she enjoyed, then her life has purpose and meaning and will carry on forever.

How We Can Help.

Emily’s perfect day begins at the beach. Emily loved the warm sand between her toes, the cool breeze, the sound of the water lapping the shore and her family all together. While at Ocean Isle Beach during a brainstorming session for, at that time, the unnamed foundation, Emily’s love of the beach inspired the idea of how to fund (and name) the Foundation. We feel that this is another way we can honor Emily – by giving a respite from the stress that other families might be going through. Offering getaways to the beach for such families, where they can enjoy the most basic of life’s gifts, seemed purposeful. Emily would definitely agree. But we cannot do this alone. There are other ways that you can help.

About The Beach Rental.

Located on Ocean Isle Beach, the Beach House is available during certain weeks of the year for families going through treatments similar to Emily’s. The house is offered free of charge to families with sick children that are referred to us by medical professionals that we trust. It has 5 bedrooms, 5 baths and is located on the canal, and close to the beach. (A golf cart is provided for those unable to easily walk to the beach.)

The Foundation Emily’s Perfect Day.

The Foundation was formed as a 501 (c) 3. We are a tax-exempt organization for the purpose of supporting our mission to help families going through circumstances similar to ours. The Beach House rental is our biggest support vehicle, but we also offer other help and support to families. If you are interested in helping to support the foundation, please Donate Now.

As mentioned above, Emily confided in me once that she was worried that she too might be forgotten. I assured her then, and it’s
my firm belief, that she would always be remembered. Here is the evidence of her memory living on. Please visit the links below to learn more about recent and upcoming events and see pictures of both the beach house and other works of the Foundation.
